Just as it’s hard to define the word ‘romantic’, so it is hard to define chicklit. Is it witty novels with a warm heart and an endearing heroine, or is it simply books written by chicks for chicks? Or maybe it’s books that are written purely for pleasure, like a Magnum ice cream or a glass of champagne. Every book in the chicklit genre is different, and deserves its own category – but it’s great to have an identifiable umbrella term that people can relate to. Each decade seems to have its own genre – 80s sex and shopping, 90s aga saga – so it will be interesting to see what comes next. In the meantime, I am happy to be defined by a term which includes such fantastic fellow authors – authors I look up to and adore reading.

Paradise Fields and Highland Fling are great too. The only one I didn’t really like was Flora’s Lot. Apart from that I’ve enjoyed those I’ve read!
