The Tale of Lucy
October 9th, 2009 by Leah
I don’t know if any of you have noticed but one of the most popular female names in women’s fiction seems to be LUCY. It is ridiculous the amount of books I’ve seen with Lucy as one of the main characters. I begin to think: Can’t they come up with another name? There are millions of names out there!
So far I have 10 books (11 if you count The Chocolate Lovers’ Diet) which have a Lucy. They are: Lucy in the Sky by Paige Toon, Lucy Springer Gets Even by Lisa Heidke, Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married by Marian Keyes, Heaven Can Wait by Cally Taylor, The Chocolate Lovers’ Club (and Diet) by Carole Matthews, The Sinful Life of Lucy Burns by Elizabeth Leiknes, The Secret Life of the Slummy Mummy by Fiona Neill, After You by Julie Buxbaum, My Single Friend by Jane Costello, The History of Lucy’s Love Life in 10.5 Chapters by Deborah Wright.
I’m sure there are some I’ve missed so leave a comment with them in and I’ll add them to our list. I admit that I do like the name Lucy I just find it tiresome after reading so many books with the same main character name! There are also a few authors called Lucy, too: Lucy Diamond, Lucy Dawson, Lucy Dillon, Lucy-Anne Holmes.

It is incredibly annoying.
My new favourite names are Laurette, Lavinia, Christina and Katrina.
Nice and vaguely original!
