Cover Wars: Temptation by Olivia Darling

Olivia Darling’s third novel Temptation was due to be released last year (2010) but has been pushed back to 9th June 2011, which is a pain for her fans but I hope it’s going to be worth the wait as I love her books! The book has also had a cover redesign - I much prefer the new version (left) to the older dark version (right). Which do you like? Here’s the synopsis:

“International singing star Cosima has it all. Talent, fame and a super-sized overdraft. Will the promise of a big pay-day tempt her to embark on a six week tour where she’ll be forced to share the stage with her ex-husband, the only man who ever broke her heart?

For the past five years, high-flying banker Juliet has been sleeping with her married boss. She thinks it’s love, but when his empty promises are revealed, will she be tempted to risk her life to use a dangerous secret against him?

Mercy is struggling to make ends meet as an office cleaner while longing to follow in Cosima’s footsteps and make it big as a singer. Will she be tempted to break the law to take the first step towards her dream?

Three very different women set their worlds on a collision course when they give in to their desires.”

I definitely prefer the blue sky and moon design. I’ve never bought a novel with an actual photograph of a woman on the cover. I prefer to pick up on written descriptions of the protagonist and imagine what the heroine would look like. Not only that, I feel that they appear cheaper - just my view.
I’ve recently signed with an agent and am crossing everything that I find a publisher this year. I realise that publishers like to have a big say in the cover, but I’d definitely stipulate no photographs of a woman.
Love the blue one though. It would certainly encourage me to pick it off the shelf for a closer look.
Good luck

I like the new cover a lot more than the original one.
