Book Cover: To Touch The Stars by Jessica Ruston

Posted on Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 by Leah

Jessica Ruston’s second novel, after her debut Luxury, is due out in hardback on the 9th December 201o and although originally titled Decadence, it will now be called To Touch The Stars. Personally, I preferred Decadence because it’s a beautiful word but To Touch The Stars works for me. I also think the cover is stunning, definitely one of my favourites and the book itself sounds just as fab. Here’s the synopsis:

Renowned for style, glamour and sophistication, Cavalley’s creates the most luxurious millinery in the world. Talented and beautiful, Violet Cavalley has poured her heart and soul into building her multi-million-pound business and raising her three adored children. But behind the Cavalley family’s gilded façade lies a streak of darkness. Darkness that now threatens to destroy them all…

American Saturdays Book News: Maybe This Time by Jennifer Crusie

Posted on Saturday, August 28th, 2010 by Danielle

Out this week, 31st of August to be exact, is Jennifer Crusie’s most recently release Maybe This Time. I’m dying to read it! Honestly when I originally saw the cover posted at Tales of Whimsy I wanted to get my hands on it as soon as possible. As it turns out, I’m going to be picking it up this week for sure and hoping to be reading it very very soon! What do you think? Love the cover as much as I do? Here’s the synopsis:

Andie Miller is ready to move on in life. She wants to marry her fiancé and leave behind everything in her past, especially her ex-husband, North Archer. But when Andie tries to gain closure with him, he asks one final favor of her before they go their separate ways forever. A very distant cousin of his has died and left North as the guardian of two orphans who have driven out three nannies already, and things are getting worse. He needs a very special person to take care of the situation and he knows Andie can handle anything. When Andie meets the two children she quickly realizes things are much worse than she feared. The place is a mess, the children, Carter and Alice, aren’t your average delinquents, and the creepy old house where they live is being run by the worst housekeeper since Mrs. Danvers. What’s worse, Andie’s fiancé thinks this is all a plan by North to get Andie back, and he may be right. Andie’s dreams have been haunted by North since she arrived at the old house. And that’s not the only haunting. What follows is a hilarious adventure in exorcism, including a self-doubting parapsychologist, an annoyed medium, her Tarot-card reading mother, an avenging ex-mother-inlaw, and, of course, her jealous fiancé. And just when she thinks things couldn’t get more complicated, North shows up on the doorstep making her wonder if maybe this time things could be different between them. If Andie can just get rid of all the guests and ghosts, she’s pretty sure she can save the kids, and herself, from the past. But fate might just have another thing in mind…

And, little by little, Annie and Tom start to open up to one another about the terrible, painful truth they have lived with all these years. Suddenly issues which they could laugh off or resolve in bed erupt into quarrels, whether about who puts out the rubbish bin or about Kate’s ambivalence towards having children. Fighting the case in the court by day while sharing a bed by night, both must reassess their ideas about parenthood, fidelity and the equality of men and women in a modern marriage. Victoria Connelly – A Weekend With Mr Darcy – 16th September 2010

Katherine Roberts is fed up with men. As a lecturer specialising in the works of Jane Austen, she knows that the ideal man only exists within the pages of Pride & Prejudice and that in real life there is no such thing. Determined to go it alone, she finds all the comfort she needs reading her guilty pleasure – regency romances from the pen of Lorna Warwick – with whom she has now struck up an intimate correspondence.

Austen fanatic, Robyn Love, is blessed with a name full of romance, but her love life is far from perfect. Stuck in a rut with a bonehead boyfriend, Jace, and a job she can do with her eyes shut – her life has hit a dead end. Robyn would love to escape from it all but wouldn’t know where to start.

They both decide to attend the annual Jane Austen Conference at sumptuous Purley Hall, overseen by the actress and national treasure, Dame Pamela Harcourt. Robyn is hoping to escape from Jace for the weekend and indulge in her passion for all things Austen. Katherine is hoping that Lorna Warwick will be in attendance and is desperate to meet her new best friend in the flesh.

But nothing goes according to plan and Robyn is aghast when Jace insists on accompanying her, whilst Katherine is disappointed to learn that Lorna won’t be coming. However, an Austen weekend wouldn’t be the same without a little intrigue, and Robyn and Katherine are about to get much more than they bargained for. Because where Jane Austen is concerned, romance is never very far away…

    Cathy Kelly – Homecoming – 16th September 2010

Eleanor Levine left Ireland seventy years ago with little more than a suitcase and her mother’s handwritten recipe book. Now, a lifetime later, she’s returning from New York with hard won wisdom and memories of her own. A renowned psychoanalyst, Eleanor knows there’s one final journey she has to make… Lovely young actress Megan Bouchier didn’t have to chase success – it arrived effortlessly. Fame was what she always wanted until a disastrous affair made her the wrong kind of headlines – now Megan needs a place to hide… Darkly beautiful Rae is a wonderful wife, a loyal friend and a dedicated community carer. From Titania’s Tea Rooms she dispenses tea and sympathy to everyone – until a painful secret from her past threatens everything she holds dear.

Big-hearted teacher Connie O’Callaghan has given up on love. She’s cheerfully approaching forty and besides, why does no man ever match the heroes in her beloved romantic novels? As Eleanor re-reads her mother’s comforting words and watches life unfold from her window in Dublin’s pretty Golden Square, she slowly becomes drawn into the lives of Megan, Rae and Connie. But can treasured wisdom handed down from mother to daughter really be relevant today? And what are the ingredients for a life well lived?

Louise Patten – Good As Gold – 30th September 2010

Edie Quentance is the ugly duckling in a family of charming conformists. For generations, Quentance Bank has managed the wealth of its rich and aristocratic clients, and when Edie is pushed into joining the family bank, she finds the work very dull indeed. She passes the time trying to uncover the truth about her great-grandfather Kit, whose love of the sea she has inherited. Kit Quentance was rumoured to have carried a fortune into the Titanic lifeboat with him – money that has never been found. Edie’s excavations in the family archive unearth some shocking and far more recent secrets. She realises that Quentance Bank is not the paragon of old fashioned probity it pretends to be. As she tries to right her family’s wrong-doings, Edie’s position becomes increasingly dangerous. Her twin brother, her parents, her uncle – she no longer knows whom she can trust.

Sara Shepard – Everything We Ever Wanted – 30th September 2010

How do you choose between your family and your history? Emotional and compelling storytelling from Sara Shepard, author of All the Things We Didn’t Say.

A late-night phone call on a Sunday evening rarely brings good news. So when Sylvie, a recently-widowed mother of two, receives a call from the head teacher of the school she’s on the board of, she knows it won’t be something she wants to hear. The school was founded by her grandfather, and she’s inherited everything he strived to build up – a reputation, a heritage, the school and the grand old family house. And with this inheritance comes responsibility.

So when her son Scott is whispered to be involved in a scandal that led to the death of one of the boys he coaches at the school, it throws the family into chaos: Sylvie has to decide between her loyalty to the school that has been part of her family legacy for years and her son who she feels wants nothing to do with her. She starts spying on the dead boy’s father, making an unlikely connection.

Sara Shepard’s compelling new novel tells how hard it can be to really, truly connect to people, how making quick, easy judgments can come back to haunt you, and how the life you always planned for – and always dreamed of – often doesn’t always turn out the way you imagined at all…

September Releases from Little Black Dress

Posted on Friday, August 27th, 2010 by Leah

Only two Little Black Dress releases in September and both sound fab. First up is the penultimate Hen Night Prophecies book by Jessica Fox (aka Ruth Saberton) with Unlucky In Love and then we have the fab Kate Lace with a new release, A Class Act!

Unlucky In Love by Jessica Fox released on 16th September

The fourth novel in this addictive new series, THE HEN NIGHT PROPHECIES, following the fortunes of five different girls, each given their own puzzling prophecy at a friend’s hen night, focuses on Libby,‘A danger to men…’ Risk-taker Libby Foster wishes she thought things through more – maybe then she’d avoid being humiliated at work over her reckless romantic attachments. So it’s just as well that she’s swearing herself off men and escaping to a Thai island to work on location casting for a romance-slash-action film. But is she really such a danger to the opposite sex? A series of bizarre events in the serene beach surroundings have Libby fretting, but could it be she’s met her match in Craig, the daredevil martial arts instructor training her cast?

A Class Act by Kate Lace released on 30th September

A passionate tale of love, luxury and falling for the first time. Tilly de Liege may be Lady of the Manor, but it’s not quite as fabulous as it sounds - the de Lieges may be high society but they’re also flat broke. When boarding school-bound Tilly meets skater boy Ashley from the local comprehensive, it feels like the start of something special. Bur fate – and Tilly’s father – are soon conspiring against them. Then moneyed older man Marcus appears on the scene… Are Tilly and Ashley star-crossed lovers or simply poles apart?

Book News: Minding Frankie by Maeve Binchy

Posted on Thursday, August 26th, 2010 by Danielle

With over twenty novels to her name, many of which are bestsellers, Maeve Binchy is quite an accomplished writer. Her newest novel Minding Frankie is due out 30th September 2010 in hardback and February 2011 in paperback. The story sounds intriguing and I’m sure it’s going to be a huge hit. Here’s the synopsis:

Baby Frankie is born into an unusual family. Her mother is desperate to find someone to take care of her child and she doesn’t have much time.

Noel doesn’t seem to be the most promising of fathers but despite everything, he could well be Frankie’s best hope.
As for Lisa, she is prepared to give up everything for the man she loves; surely he’s going to love her back?

And Moira is having none of it. She knows what’s right, and has the power to change the course of Frankie’s life . . . but Moira is hiding secrets of her own.
MINDING FRANKIE is a story about unconventional families, relationships which aren’t quite what they seem, and the child at the heart of everyone’s lives . . .

Book Cover: The Time Is Now by Pauline McLynn

Posted on Wednesday, August 25th, 2010 by Leah

Pauline McLynn is yet another actress who has turned to writing and she seems to be a fairly popular author. I actually have two of her books on my shelf to read, Brights Lights & Promises and Missing You Already, and they sound fab. Her latest book The Time Is Now is out in hardback in July, and paperback in January 2011. The cover for The Time Is Now is vastly different from her previous covers, and seems far more grown up than you might expect. Here’s the synopsis:

A masterful story of secret lives in the streets of Soho. In the heart of Soho lies an elegant townhouse that is home to a group of extraordinary people.  Over the past century, the inhabitants of Broadwick Street have experienced life to the full - war and peace, austerity and wealth, love and death. From an outbreak of typhoid to a stolen painting, the interlinking stories that emerge will enchant and enthrall Pauline McLynn’s many fans as she transports her readers to Soho past and present.

Book News: All the Hopeful Lovers by William Nicholson

Posted on Tuesday, August 24th, 2010 by Chloe

This isn’t a book that I would have especially picked out to feature on the site, but I was sent a copy to review by the publishers and it really caught my eye… it’s chick lit by a man! The press release describes the author William Nicholson as following in the footsteps of Marian Keyes and the like, so I am curious to read it and see if that claim is true! It’s out on 2nd September, and is the second in a trilogy of books, although they are apparently stand alone books too. Here’s the synopsis:

“Belinda, just fifty, wistfully reflects how much better she is at sex now than when she was young and gorgeous, and then discovers to her fury that her husband Tom is having an affair. All the Hopeful Lovers tracks the emotional rollercoaster she lives through over the seven days following her discovery. At the same time we learn what’s going on inside the mind of Tom and of his lover Meg. Weaving through this web of middle-aged lovers is a tangle of teenage ones, as Belinda’s flirty daughter Chloe tries to set up Jack with shy Alice, without realising that Jack is full of secret longings for her. These personal dramas are unfolding in December in the tense run-up to Christmas: our own familiar world, rendered pacy, funny and emotionally on the button. Every reader will find a character here who is trying to love as they have loved, and is making a mess of it as they have.”

American Saturdays News: She’s Gone Country by Jane Porter

Posted on Saturday, August 21st, 2010 by Danielle

Jane Porter, author of Mrs. Perfect and Easy on the Eyes has a new release out this week! And though, I’m not a huge fan of this particular cover, the synopsis for She’s Gone Country sounds quite good and I’m definitely eager to get through my reading pile so I can read this one. It’s out August 23rd and September 28th in the UK. Let me know, what do you think of the cover? Do you think you’ll pick it up based on Porter’s reputation and the book’s synopsis? Take a look:

Shey Darcy, a 39-year-old former top model for Vogue and Sports Illustrated led a charmed life in New York City with a handsome photographer husband until the day he announced he’d fallen in love with someone else. Left to pick up the pieces of her once happy world, Shey decides to move back home to Texas with her three teenage sons. Life on the family ranch, however, brings with it a whole new host of dramas starting with differences of opinion with her staunch Southern Baptist mother, her rugged but overprotective brothers, and daily battles with her three sons who are also struggling to find themselves. Add to the mix Shey’s ex-crush, Dane Kelly, a national bullriding champ and she’s got her hands full. It doesn’t take long before Shey realizes that in order to reinvent herself, she must let go of an uncertain future and a broken past, to find happiness–and maybe love–in the present.
